Supermarket giant Morrisons is the latest retailer to stock ten-inch diet pizzas from online health retailer Musclefood.com

The popular Musclefood.com Chicken Tikka Light Pizza and Margherita Diet Pizza is now available in the frozen section of 400 Morrisons stores across the UK.

The news comes after it was announced the company, valued at £50 million has received a £10 million investment from BGF to continue to grow its core UK offering and support its European expansion.

It’s the second major supermarket to stock the pizza’s. Both flavours successfully launched into 250 UK Sainsbury’s stores last year, and have proved popular with dieters nationwide, looking for healthy alternatives to their favourite food.

At less than 500kcal per ten-inch pizza, the pizzas contain significantly fewer calories than supermarket frozen pizzas and only a fraction of the calories in takeaway versions.

Ideal as a meal or snack at any time of day, the diet pizzas are also suitable for coeliacs and those looking for macro friendly, high protein, fibre rich food that is low in carbohydrates and fat.

Unlike traditional fat loaded pizza bases, the oval diet pizzas have bases fortified with pea protein. This ensures that their calorie content is low and they are naturally gluten free.

Each pizza retails at £3.50 and takes just 12 minutes in the oven, so they are simple and quick to prepare.

The Chicken Tikka Light ten-inch pizza has a protein base topped with pea protein enriched tomato sauce, a sprinkling of mozzarella, chicken pieces marinated in an authentic tikka style sauce and roasted red and yellow peppers. At 461kcal per whole pizza, it is the lowest calorie option of the two, with 28.8g of protein, 44.1g of carbs, 16.7g of fat and 9.7g of fibre.

The Margherita Diet ten-inch pizza has an oval stone baked base topped with tangy tomato sauce and creamy mozzarella. It has 473kcal per pizza, with 25.7g of protein, 44.4g of carbs, 19.6g of fat and 7.7g of fibre.

MuscleFood.com first launched its popular protein pizza’s almost three years ago and since then it’s become one of the retailer’s most popular products.

Darren Beale of Musclefood.com said: “We are delighted to be launching two of our diet pizzas into yet another renowned UK supermarket chain. Our pizzas were developed especially for dieters looking to keep to their healthy eating plans, but who also want to eat something that looks and tastes as good as a takeaway treat.

“The calorie count of takeaway pizzas is well into the thousands, so it’s great that we are able to offer an alternative that means people can keep in shape without giving up the food they love.

“With each pizza containing less than 500 calories, we believe that this is quite possibly the lowest calorie pizza available in the UK.”
