Decon Logistics Limited was established in 2003 by Derek Connolly, who had spent a number of years in the family fruit importation business.

With changes in the FMCG and the centralisation of distribution, Decon was established in Claregalway, Co Galway, in the Irish Republic, to cater for the growing demand for a multi-temperature distribution company with a vast amount of experience in the distribution business.
Derek says: “At Decon Logistics we specialise in overnight palletised temperature-controlled distribution to the retail and food service trade from our distribution centre in Oranmore. We can tailor our services to meet the total distribution needs of our customers, direct from the end of their production line or port of entry to final delivery at their customers’ premises. We cater for all sectors within the food industry from:-

• Fresh Fruit and Vegetables
• Pork and Beef products
• Delicatessen products
• Dairy Products
• Fresh Flowers
• Ambient Foods

Decon provides temperature controlled storage where fresh foods can be stored awaiting delivery. Decon’s staff has the knowledge and expertise to provide a one-stop solution for all distribution requirements. Vehicles are equipped with temperature monitoring systems, which means that a computerised list of vehicle temperatures is always on hand. The company’s professional and enthusiastic staff ensure that customers’ products are stored, dispatched and ultimately delivered at a timely and cost efficient manner to suit both the client and the demands of its customers.

In terms of warehousing, Decon Logistics has the space and experience to manage a customer’s stock requirements. With a 21,000ft2 facility, it has the ability to handle and store palletised or loose loads, with dock levellers and internal/external ground facilities to ensure safe handling of product. The facility is fully secure and equipped with CCTV along with access control for greater restriction as well as the site being fully and securely fenced.

Decon has the ability to store temperature-controlled goods in its cold storage facility along with a racked warehouse for ambient pallet storage. It has the experience and ability to provide a fully tailored logistics service from collection to storage, order picking and delivery to its final destination.

With respect to transport, Decon operates a new and well-maintained fleet of vehicles and trailers. All its vehicles and equipment are purchased from new and are serviced by the Company’s in-house maintenance team. There are currently three types of trailers in the fleet, namely Gray & Adams, Frappa and Chereau. There are a number of double-deck trailers for specific clients where greater volumes can be carried, thus reducing the cost to the customer.

The majority of our fleet is operated with Thermo King refrigerated units and Dhollandia tail lifts. All of the vehicles are covered by 24 hour roadside assistance be it for mechanical problems with a vehicle or a problem with equipment. All of the vehicles are washed by a private firm both inside and outside on a weekly basis using approved antibacterial solutions for the food transportation industry. Should a vehicle require more frequent washing, Decon has its own on-site washing facilities.

Derek concludes, “Decon’s mission is to become a valued logistics partner with all our customers with a clear focus on delivering a professional, high quality and cost effective supply chain solution.”
