The PPMA show will witness the UK launch of a new coding technology developed by HERMA. The system integrates the HERMA developed label and an industry standard CO2 laser to give excellent code contrast and quality.

Most laser systems work by removing material or a coating from the product (ablation) or by changing the surface of the substrate to generate the image. The HERMA Laser Activated Material (LAM) works using a laser sensitive material embedded into the label at manufacture, no material is burnt away whilst coding so there is no dust and no need for extraction.

Used in conjunction with the industry leading HERMA 400 label applicator, the system gives superior results to traditional coding systems without the need of expensive printing consumables.

The result is a high quality, scratch and smudge resistant label printed at the point of application.

HERMA will also showcase their “M” range of high end labelling systems. Shown in both wrap around and front / back formats, these systems are capable of very high speeds and are suitable for high volume production lines where minimal down time is a necessity.

The “M” series is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as a number of special features are available, for example the capability to remove incorrectly coded labels before they are applied to the product without stopping the machine.

Full details of the complete HERMA products and services will be available from PPMA 2011 – on Stand No C75
