Hawkers Bar & Brasserie, a new neighbourhood drinking and dining destination, is now open in Kingston-Upon-Thames. A short walk from both the train station and the riverside, the 3500 square foot space features 160 covers, a sheltered outdoor terrace and stand-alone lounge bar.

Open seven days a week, the British brasserie offers an all-day menu of comfort classics with a number of modern European additions, designed by head chef Darren Edwards. Lighter dishes include mackerel ceviche and beef carpaccio with signature mains including Hawkers puff pie with slow-cooked lamb and bacon, and Hawkers fish and chips with Gallow’s gold ale batter. Bottomless Saturday brunches, classic afternoon tea and family-style Sunday roasts are featured on the menu.

The stand-alone lounge bar stocks a comprehensive range of premium cocktails and spirits including gin from local distillery Beckett’s, craft beers from local breweries and a carefully sourced accessibly priced wine list.

Award winning agency Design LSM have used the restaurant’s inspiration, 1920’s Hawkers Aviation founder Harry Hawker, to create a contemporary interior with Art Deco touches. A colour pallet of copper, grey and teal has been used with statement hanging lights, exposed pipework and tiled floors. The bar is filled with distinctive patterned chairs, low-set coffee tables and aviation artwork, while buttoned teal leather banquettes and curved single seats feature in the brasserie. A Chef’s Table, set just opposite the open pass kitchen, allows groups and parties to get closer to the action.

Merlin Ramos, General Manager, Hawkers comments: “We’re delighted to introduce Hawkers to my local Kingston community. We have worked hard to incorporate aspects of the local aviation history into the restaurant’s design and menu, using local ingredients and suppliers where possible. We are also dedicated to supporting friends and neighbours and look forward to seeing what the coming months have in store.”

Housed on Skerne Road, on the ground floor of the new DoubleTree by Hilton London Kingston-Upon-Thames, this independent neighbourhood restaurant is a welcome edition to the town’s dining scene.
