Granny Gothards is a traditional ice cream manufacturer based on The Somerset Levels. The business is based on the dairy farm from where the fresh milk comes straight to the parlour to be made into the best quality ice cream. These are freshly made from pasture to pot in just a day, and are 100% natural with no artificial additives, colourings or stabilisers.

With demand increasing and a new summer season in view, Granny Gothards approached Riggs Autopack to discuss how they could improve production and effectively fill their pots by utilising a semi-automatic procedure.

From the first demonstration, Riggs Autopack’s depositor proved to be extremely effective, quick and accurate, and handled the ice cream with large delicate inclusions extremely well to leave the product as perfect as if potted by hand.

A special depositor machine configuration was offered to provide the best yield of product at the lowest cost and to fit into their low ceiling parlour. This new machine was built very quickly at the Riggs Autopack factory in Nelson, Lancashire, and is now installed and running.

Business owner Amanda Stansfield says: “Due to the success of our ice cream in restaurants and hotels, the demand for our retail range has grown and we needed to look for a more effective way of filling our tubs without affecting the texture and consistency of the ice cream.”
