Introducing National Craft Bakers’ Week 2011

Building on the previous years successes, the National Association of Master Bakers (NAMB) is pleased to announce the official launch of National Craft Bakers’ Week 2011, which will run from 19th – 24th September and promote the specialist traditional skills that have been practised by craft bakers for generations.

Backed by a national media campaign this event is the perfect opportunity for independent craft bakers to raise their profile and showcase their skills in baking for the local community.

The idea is to engage all age groups and encourage their appreciation of the many benefits of having a local baker who bakes fresh products right in the heart of the community through in-store tastings, special promotions and school competitions organized by members of NAMB.

Craft bakers are encouraged to make the commitment by signing up to National Craft Bakers’ Week 2011and start planning early for the event in order to make it bigger and better than last year.

This year National Craft Bakers’ Week will be backed by a national promotional campaign, professionally produced point of sale materials to help promote the event and spearheaded by double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes who has inspired so many with her grit and determination to be a winner.

Dame Kelly Holmes reported, “I believe wholeheartedly in championing activity within local communities, whether that’s via sport or by supporting local businesses. A healthy and busy central hub is essential to the wellbeing of all. My local baker, for example, sells wonderful tasty products that I simply can’t do without. We should all make a conscious effort during this year’s National Craft Bakers’ Week to visit our local baker.”

The campaign ‘Baking for the local community’ aims to communicate the important commercial and social role that craft bakers provide to the community and to encourage people to eat healthy and freshly, produced baked goods in support of their local baker.

The National Craft Bakers’ Week activity is organised by the National Association of Master Bakers (NAMB) and has been developed with a group of key bakery suppliers (Bako NW, Bakels, BFP Wholesale, California Raisins, CSM United Kingdom, Macphie, Marriage’s, Puratos and the Reynard Group) along with British Baker magazine in conjunction with William Reed business media.
