Boughey Distribution is one of the UK’s leading ambient grocery distribution and storage specialists. It offers a fully-consolidated supply chain solution allowing businesses of all sizes to service and supply multiple retailers, wholesalers and independent grocers. It enables clients to distribute their produce without the overheads of a dedicated warehousing and distribution facility.

This award-winning North West-based company works with importers and producers to supply retailers in the ambient grocery market. Its services can be divided into three key areas: Warehousing, Distribution and Contract Packing. Its extensive warehousing operation is based around two sites in Cheshire. The main warehousing site is in Wardle, near Nantwich, where there is space for 104,000 pallets in 700,000 sq. ft of warehousing. At Deeside, near Chester, there is warehousing for a further 18,000 pallets. These two sites offer unrivalled efficiency, flexibility and accessibility for clients large and small.

From these two operational warehouse sites Boughey delivers UK-wide. The sites are strategically positioned for the motorway infrastructure and the import and export of products via the Port of Liverpool. Boughey operates various order lead times including ‘day one’ order for ‘day two’ delivery cycles and is the PCC for several major supermarkets, and the partner of choice for specialist food producers. Boughey’s fleet consists of 130 MAN trucks and 260 trailers, and all its trucks will meet Euro 5 standard, the leading edge of green energy, by the end of 2012. In addition to warehousing and distribution, Boughey also provides a contract packing service that caters to the individual needs of its customers and their promotional requirements.

Boughey has approximately 200 customers and receives stock from the US, Far East and Europe. The stock handled could be anything from pet food, to protective skin lotion, and everything in-between. The company has recently invested over £2.5m into new technology for logistics and distribution, including SAP, Miscrolise and Paragon, which ensures that the Boughey business works at maximum efficiency and provides real time information to its customers.

The company is also focusing on reducing its environmental impact. In 2010 only 34% of waste on the Boughey sites was recycled – today that figure has risen to 94%. The company has also invested over £300,000 in lighting improvements to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

Investing in its employees’ future, Boughey started an Apprenticeship scheme last year. Commented Iain Lochrie, Boughey Sales and Marketing Manager: “In the ever-changing business environment, Boughey is focusing on its future. We aim to provide our apprentices with both a practical trade and job satisfaction. We are always on the lookout for raw talent and moulding it into tomorrow’s success stories. Boughey is pleased to be delivering training and jobs for driven young people.”
