Mercury Packaging, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of plain, printed, laminated and converted flexible packaging products – has implemented an aggressive sales drive aimed at significantly growing its presence within the frozen food sector over the next 12 months.
As part of the exciting new initiative, BRC-accredited Mercury Packaging has become a member of the British Frozen Food Federation and installed a cutting edge UTECO ‘Eclipse’ Solventless Digital Laminating System for high specification pack designs.

Investment in high performance conversion, laminating and printing technology together with an in-house design department enables Mercury Packaging to deliver lightweight yet robust plastics packs and film-on-the-reel which have been specially designed to achieve maximum brand awareness, shelf life and protection.

Tony Stanger, Mercury Packaging’s Managing Director comments: “Our high quality laminates provide excellent barrier properties for frozen food products and can be customised to include special features and finishes such as gas barrier, odour barrier, UV absorber, etc.
He continues: “Designed to suit individual customer requirements, these films offer excellent protection for packaged goods and substantial enhancement in shelf life – reducing wastage for the packer and consumer.”

Mercury Packaging has vast experience in providing highly efficient film-on-the-reel for all kinds of horizontal and vertical form fill and seal applications, as well as for flow-wrapping or lidding.

Bags & pouches can be supplied in a variety of styles and options: with or without gusset, tear-off perforations, punched handles, ventilation perforations, re-sealable tapes, captive flap and blockheaded.

As well as the newly installed, environmentally friendly solventless digital laminator, which is capable of handling a variety of materials including polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene and metallised films, the company’s dedicated print room houses a £1.3 million eight-colour flexographic print press.

Established in 1999, Mercury Packaging employs over 50 people at its site in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and now boasts an annual turnover of approximately £7million. The company manufactures a wide range of flexible packaging products, including bags, pouches and film-on-the-reel, aimed at the food, mailing, magazine publishing, retail, security and fulfilment markets.

Mercury Packaging recently picked up first prize in the Flexible Packaging (Process) category at the recent Flexotech International Print and Innovations Awards. The company was also named overall winner of the prestigious Supreme award.
