Trade associations see TCS&D show as focus for innovation and savings in tough times

The Temperature Controlled Storage & Distribution exhibition (TCS&D 2013) plays an important role in promoting new technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs in the hard-pressed cold supply chain, according to the Food Storage & Distribution Federation (FSDF) and the British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF).


Both trade organisations are once again supporting the TCS&D exhibition, which incorporates the Frozen & Chilled Foods show and takes place at the Peterborough Arena on 18th and 19th September. Said Brian Young, Director-General of the BFFF, “Despite the economy avoiding a triple dip, it is still bumping along the bottom, so household incomes continue to suffer. Due to the good value and minimal waste of frozen food, the gloomy economic situation has had a positive effect on the frozen retail market, which is currently growing by 4.5% year on year. On the other hand, with consumers reducing money spent outside of the home, the food service sector continues to face very tough conditions. All this means that a key event such as TCS&D,” he continued, “becomes a valuable focal point for innovative ideas that can reduce overheads and improve logistics efficiency. The show is brilliant at getting the industry together and sharing best practice.”

Rejuvenating the industry

Chris Sturman, Chief Executive of the FSDF, agrees: “The FSDF is delighted to support an event that is helping to rejuvenate the industry. With HFC refrigerants being phased out of both static and mobile units, the prospect of F-Gas regulations looming large and trials underway for longer trailers, this is a period of rapid change in which buyers need to be fully up-to-speed with the latest technologies – and TCS&D provides a great platform for this.” He added, “We are especially pleased to have been invited, along with the BFFF, to contribute to the show’s seminar programme and Transfigoroute – which was recently integrated into our organisation – will be a key area of focus for our presentations.”

Industry awards

The first-ever TCS&D Awards Dinner will take place at the end of the first day of the show to recognise individuals, companies or solutions that demonstrate best practice and nominations are open at until 1 July 2013.
