Automated solutions specialist Sewtec Automation has invested over £150,000 in new equipment and enhanced facilities to support the company’s continuing growth strategy and its ISO 9001 and recent ISO 14001 accreditations.

The investment includes the building of a special climate controlled inspection laboratory incorporating a Faro 3D optical measurement system. This highly accurate machine checks all dimensions and tolerances for every component in Sewtec-designed systems as part of the company’s stringent quality control procedures for its manufacturing operation.

Assembly space has also been increased and restructured to provide a smoother flow of work through the factory and improve safety.

At the same time Sewtec has implemented a series of enhanced procedures and working practices, which have enabled the company to achieve accreditation to the ISO 14001 environmental standard.

These latest developments follow Sewtec’s £0.5 million expansion in 2009 which saw the company extend its factory footprint by around 10,000 sq ft. The ongoing investment strategy reflects continued strong demand for Sewtec’s range of special purpose automated equipment in both established industries including food, confectionery and tobacco and developing sectors such as pharmaceutical and medical devices.

Sewtec’s workforce has doubled over the past five years and the company is currently seeking to recruit additional personnel for design, manufacturing, software development and sales functions.
