All too often when we talk about going for an Indian meal, we are actually visiting a Bangladeshi or even a Pakistani restaurant.

In many cases, the food will not be authentic native cooking but an Anglicised version to suit local tastes. However, if you are lucky enough to live in the Faversham area of Kent, you could be in for a real treat.

Corinne Goodman, an Anglo-Indian housewife who had become frustrated by her career in IT and who had a passionate love of cooking, decided in 2007 to branch out on her own and to offer genuine Indian food, cooked in the traditional Indian manner, using the correct ingredients and spices. With her family originating from Southern India, there was a natural tendency to specialise in the food from this area. As she explained, “With Southern India being covered in coconut palms, there is a considerable use of coconut and coconut milk in our cooking. In contrast, with the north of India being more agricultural, there is more use of yoghurt and cream in the food, together with the tandoori method of cooking.”

Corinne began by treating her friends and even taking food into the company where she worked in IT before setting up on her own. She received considerable encouragement from her friends and expanded into offering food at weddings and parties, as well as giving cookery demonstrations and lessons. These days a large part of Corinne’s business is parties and weddings along with supplying farm shops and delis with her produce.

She also offers a home delivery service, whereby orders over £15.00 will be delivered free of charge within the Faversham, Selling, Sheldwich, Boughton and Dunkirk areas. So successful has Corinne been that, in 2010, Corinne’s Creative Kitchen was the Winner in the Kent Artisan Food Producer of the Year Awards. She is now looking for new premises to enable her to expand her business even more so, if you are in the area make a note of her number and telephone without delay for a TRUE Indian experience!
